With a great new build in 2017 the fashion and textiles department is a state of the art building with fabulous facilities in a range of disciplines.

The fashion and textiles department has an impressive 75% employment rate for graduates before they even complete their final year, something that is an important influencing factor for students when the choose courses. Lecturers said their courses focus a lot on students thinking about employability skills and what the industry wants in the real world. This includes a detailed understanding of the technical side of textiles, including fabric and product testing, which they said was the basis of designing and manufacturing and a key to employability.

The uni offers a range of textiles and fashion courses with those focusing on retail buying etc. being popular as they aim to give students a wider set of skills but still have the designing and making elements that are found on traditional fashion courses.

The university offers a wide range of textiles courses including ones on fashion, accessories, textile design (includes print/knit/weave/mixed media), fashion management, buying and marketing, footwear, contour fashion (which includes lingerie, swimwear, corsetry, sportswear, menswear, nightwear), and textiles engineering.
