  • The scheme of learning consists of 22 A4 pages in Word format all which can be edited.
  • It is written in a generic format rather than being targeted at one specific year group or ability level. It is suitable for KS3 as well as KS4 where it might be used as a year 10 module or year 11 revision task. Teachers will need to adapt it to meet the needs of the students and year group it is being used with.
  • The scheme of learning is written as a 10 week block of 1 hour lessons but can be adapted to be a longer or shorter project. Learning objectives are given for each lesson, along with suggested activities and homework. Note information given is in outline form only and the teacher will need to develop how the module is delivered themselves.
  • The scheme of learning focuses on a design brief based on 'communicating a message'. Cultural and group identify themes are also mentioned.
  • One suggested outcome for the design brief is given but note this is for guidance only and there are many other potential outcomes and interpretations of the brief. Photos are included of several potential outcomes including examples of how to make the project more challenging.
  • The resource includes information on the potential the scheme of learning has to meet the KS3 curriculum (note this shows potential only and will need to be reviewed in line with how the teacher develops the scheme)
  • The resource has a range of worksheets to support the scheme of learning. The teacher will need to adapt these for the year group and ability level of the students. Worksheets include a user profile, values issues review, product analysis table, practical work diary table, and photo instructions for one potential outcome for the design brief. Suggestions are also given as to how the scheme of learning might be adapted to add more challenge for gifted and talented students.
  • A review sheet against the ‘6 Principles of D&T’, as outlined by D&TA, is included to help teachers plan how they might develop the scheme of learning further.
  • An example assessment grid is given. This is for guidance only and will need to be rewritten based on the year group and ability level the work is done with, along with being adapted to fit in with any changes the teachers makes to the scheme of learning.
  • Note that some worksheets & documents may be the same or similar to those in other schemes of learning that are available.
