Färg and Blanche

The work Färg and Blanche, a Swedish and French design duo, combines materials and techniques in an interesting way. Their ‘Wood Tailoring’ range consists of plywood stitched together using heavy duty sewing machines. Fredrik Färg says "Sewing is so heavily associated with the fashion industry but we like to think we're tailoring each of these pieces to create Haute Couture furniture”.

  • Take a look at the Färg and Blanche website to find out more about their Wood Tailoring range as well as their other ranges including ‘clothing’ for furniture and furniture design inspired by garments.
  • How might Färg and Blanche’s ‘clothing’ for furniture inspire your own range of furniture couture?
  • Experiment with unusual materials on the sewing machine. Try experimenting with balsa wood and flexible veneer which can be sewn on a domestic sewing machine.
