Paul’s latest video was released over half term. It introduces the Crumble micro controller and shows you how to programme it to create a flashing LED. A worksheet is also available to download for use in your classroom.

This worksheet is part of a series of worksheets by Paul Boyd on how to programme the Crumble micro controller. We were super excited before half term to receive the first entries to this year’s Product in a Tin competition. Don’t forget that entries can be sent in at any time even though the deadline date for the competition isn’t until 1st August 2019. It was a great start to the day to receive entries that used a range of materials in a creative and clever way and here’s a sneak peak at some of them. 


Don’t forget you can now enter photo entries if students don’t want to part with their work (although these can’t win a prize and can only be considered for inclusion on the website). The competition is also open to years 5 & 6 for the first time. Why not use the competition as a module of work, homework, club activity or even a mock NEA context? There’s lots of resources to support the competition including these #ThinkDo cards so it may be worth a look even if your students aren’t going to enter.

  • It’s Fairtrade Fortnight from 25th February to 10th March so it’s a good opportunity to bring this into lessons in some way even it it's just a quick activity. The Fairtrade Foundation have lots of free resources for schools. 
  • The Six Items Challenge by Labour Behind the Label is an annual challenge that aims to raise awareness of the impact of fast fashion. Those who take part are sponsored to wear clothing from 6 selected items of their choice every day for 6 weeks from 6th March - 18th April 2019. Participants have unlimited access to underwear, accessories, footwear and specialist items like gym wear, uniforms, sleepwear etc). This could be something some students may be interested in participating in but it would also be a good design context to explore, especially for Post 16 Fashion and Textiles students.
