  • I’m not always a big fan of league tables as they tend to be quite narrow in the criteria they use to measure things but they can be useful tools if balanced against other information that is available. This Guardian University League table should therefore be used with care but it’s a good starting point for students trying to negotiate their way through what course and uni to choose. It’s good to see a couple of my local unis getting a good rating.
  • This is both brilliant and bizarre at the same time - inflatable balloons that turn into dresses when deflated by Norweigian Central St Martin’s student Fredrik Tjærandsen’s. There’s also a vogue interview with the designer.
  • International Women in Engineering Day is at the end of next week on 23rd June. It's an awareness campaign to raise the profile of careers for women in engineering. The website has suggestions for activities for schools including competitions and there are a couple of free poster downloads that might be useful.
  • Did you download our photo card PowerPoint showcasing some of the work from the Nottingham Trent University degree shows? There are a variety of cards across different degrees, including furniture design, product design, fashion design, textile design and accessory design. See last week’s D&T blog for more information.

Product in a Tin competition - 7 weeks to get your entries in!

The countdown to our Product in a Tin competition deadline is on - there's just 7 weeks left to get your entries in (1st August). Don't forget photo entries can be submitted for the first time this year if students don't want to part with their work (although these can't win a prize). Open to years 5 through to 11 across all material areas. Can be used as a module of work, homework, club activity etc. and there are resources to get you started here. The prizes are fab but you've got to be in it to win it!
