The world's longest knitted chain

One of the great things about having a stand at the Fashion, Embroidery and Stitch Show back in March was that I was able to have a good look round myself when there were no crowds! One of the stands that caught my interest was the Craft Club Linking Up stand.

In May 2012 at the National Federation of Women’s Institutes (NFWI) AGM in the Royal Albert Hall, a Guinness World Record was achieved for the most people knitting simultaneously when 3083 members knitted green and white links which were then stitched together to make a long chain.

The NFWI then joined up with Craft Club, The UK Hand Knitting Association and The Crafts Council focusing on working together to go for another world record by making the chain into the longest knitted chain. The project is called Craft Club Linking Up.

On the stand at the show people had the opportunity to make chains to contribute to the world record attempt. You can also contribute to the project from home by knitting a loop to add to the chain and posting it for inclusion in the chain.
