Getting creative in Nottingham

My blog this week has a bit of a local link to it so apologies if you aren't from the Nottingham area.

Having moved here recently I have discovered there is a strong creative community. There are a range of creative opportunities whether it be at hobby level or via more serious study at degree level. Venues like the Nottingham Contemporary Gallery also add to the creative inspiration as do the wealth of individual shops.

For anyone living in the area a good site to visit is www.creativenottingham.com who celebrate and connect Nottingham’s creative, arts and digital business communities or anything that promotes Nottingham’s status as a creative place.

This week I came across The Young Creative Awards which is a competition for 13-24 year olds who live, work or study in Nottingham.

There are cash prizes, the chance to exhibit work and some great work experience and mentoring opportunities. The theme for this year is 'hidden Nottingham' and there are a range of categories work can be entered into including a textiles one.

There are 3 age bands; 13-15 years, 16-18 years and 19-24 years and each age group and category will have a winner and runner up. Entries can be as individuals or as groups.

Take a look at http://www.youngcreativeawards.org/2013-theme/ to find out more information.
