  • Tried & tested tips & strategies that engage learners at all levels
  • Suitable for all teachers of D&T no matter what their specialist material area. 
  • Background on research about how boys think & learn and how this can help you in your classroom to motivate and engage boys in D&T
  • Develop strategies that break down barriers to boys progressing & achieving
  • Hands on experience of various strategies specific to D&T e.g. Speed Designing (a strategy developed by us that is very successful at increasing pace & creativity, & which is proven to raise the achievement of boys) 
  • Practical and easy applications of deeper thinking strategies to help boys develop higher level thinking skills
  • Developing schemes of learning that work towards the strengths of boys in the classroom 
  • Reflecting on behaviour management of boys & how simple changes can improve teacher and student interactions
  • Developing male role models & rewards & incentives boys value in order to make achievement ‘cool'
  • Relevant to KS3, 4 and 5 and will provide you with resources and ideas that will impact on teaching and learning in your classroom immediately. 
  • Tips & strategies that are effective at supporting the learning of boys in your classroom, but which don’t create additional workload, and which are also effective in supporting girls. 
  • The course will include a free teaching and learning resources pack to take away with you 
  • During her career Julie has done a lot of informal action research on how boys learn and what engages them. In particular she is known for her work on engaging boys in textiles and has used this research to develop the learning of boys in other areas of D&T.  Find out more about some of her work specific to D&T textiles. Note this course focuses on supporting boys working across all material areas in D&T.
